About.
Dean Steel was established in 2001 predominantly to fabricate structural steel for larger construction companies for commercial buildings and multi-storey apartment and office buildings.
Although originally servicing the commercial market we over recent times have manufactured a number of house beams for smaller builders and Placemakers; looking to residential work to fill the void when commercial activity slowed. We mainly target small to medium structural jobs somewhere around the 30-50 tonne mark, although we have in the past provided all the structural steel for a 40 story apartment building and have recently completed Vert Apartments for Macrennie Construction which was over 100 tonne.
We have also diversified into concrete form work providing the form work for the Eden Park grand stand World Cup rebuild and also a complicated Tri Column structure for AUT in the centre of Auckland; both jobs for Dominion Constructors.
Our highly skilled workforce comprising of time served tradesmen allows us to take on the more complicated jobs that offer an opportunity to separate us from other more production based fabricators.
We have a very well equipped workshop; although small it is very productive. Our plant includes an automated beam line which cuts and drills beams, this allows us to eliminate human error in production of structural components, especially when there is a high level of repetitive work; for example a multi-story car park, where in spite of our size we could compete with any of the larger fabricators. We also offer this beam cutting and drilling service to other fabricators as the machine has capacity beyond our requirements.
Capabilities from multi-level structures to a single house beam, complex concrete form work to cast in plates and precast panel bracketry.

We have a great network of suppliers and subcontractors who provide us with resources ranging from detailed drafting to sandblasting and painting to any spec that may be called up, these relationships allow us to compete with other companies that may have these services in house.
The current demand for seismic assessment and strengthening to commercial structures offers us a show case for our abilities and we see this as a major market over the foreseeable future, we have undertaken the seismic strengthening of the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Stanley Building in Papakura, both significant projects with considerable challenges with regard to installation - requiring thinking outside the square which is where we come into our own. The trickier the job the more we like it; a small, highly skilled workforce that enjoys challenges and satisfaction in achieving results beyond expectation.
We have worked hard over the years to offer a service that provides customers with confidence that we will deliver on time, this has resulted in us never having to advertise and the vast majority of work coming from repeat business from clients who trust us to deliver.
